A racing magazine cover shot of G. Agnelli wearing a classic Daytona with light blue dial sparked a chain of gossip that darted around the globe led it to becoming the most famous of all Rolex watches.
The Daytona, previously had never really found its audience, though it had been in production for twenty two years. So what caused this designer watches craze?
The Daytona legend, though not really publicly popular until the eighties really has its roots in the seventies, surrounding one of Hollywood's most legendary hunks, Paul Newman. Special edition Newman Daytona's began to spark incredible interest in the 80's when designer watches were the hottest luxury item going. Nowadays Paul Newman Rolexes sell to collectors for double what the original models do.
